Hello,
My name is Susan Mostofizadeh and I am the current project lead for the Humanitarian Design Corps' project in Sabang, Philippines.
Our team initially started work in the Philippines in October 2013, with a scouting trip in February of 2014. We worked very closely with Dr. Lily Tiu in the months leading up to this scouting trip, so that when we landed in the country, we would be able to focus our energy on building relationships with the students there. Five students from CWRU went on our initial scouting trip, meeting students from both The University of Philippines and Batangas State University. We travelled with many faculty members from numerous departments here at case and presented at a Symposium at Batangas State University.
We now continue to work closely with Dr. Lily Tiu, working to understand her design for a ceramic water filter that our team could adapt to be produced in the small Aeta village that we visited when we were there.
We are also working with students from Batangas State University on a water-catchment system in Sabang, Philippines. This is our main project at the present time. Our team works to review designs that the students from Batangas State have designed alongside professional engineers from their community.
Please feel free to contact me if you ever have any questions about our project.
Thank you,
Susie
